Tailor-made Service: Honeymoons in Scotland
Itinerary R-6: Luxury Scottish honeymoon from £635 per person for 4nts
We design every honeymoon on an individual basis, but here is a suggestion.
A luxury Scottish honeymoon, with the option of travelling in true classic style, in your choice of classic and sports cars. You start with some pampered luxury in Edinburgh, where you will be able to enjoy all the many historic, artistic and modern attractions of the capital.
Then, after collecting your car, you will drive to the west coast and to an exclusive hotel on a private island, from where you will be able to explore the 1000 miles of Argyll coastline, perhaps visiting one of the many islands, finding a secret beach, or enjoying the castles and gardens of the area.
Day One
Your honeymoon starts in Edinburgh, Scotland's capital and one of Europe's top city holiday destinations. Visitors from all over the world are drawn here by the wealth of historic sites, galleries, museums, shops, restaurants and bars ' not to mention the spectacular sight of Princes Street and the castle rock. Yet it's still perfectly possible to avoid the crowds and find quiet cobbled streets, peaceful cafes and, above all, to simply soak up the ambience of this most scenic of cities. With our personal knowledge we are ideally placed to give you plenty of suggestions, including the more unusual, off-the-beaten-track hidden gems that only a local would know.
Your Hotel
From the moment you step over the threshold of this refined 5 star hotel -recently named as one of the 25 best city hotels in the world - you will feel like a cherished guest in a particularly luxurious private home. After the smoothest of check-ins you will be taken directly to your room by your own dedicated butler, who will unpack your bags, help to co-ordinate your social diary and generally cater to your every need - including serving an intimate three-course dinner in your suite if you so choose. Or you may prefer to dine in The Atholl, the hotel's sumptuous Georgian dining room, enjoying traditional Scottish delicacies and the impressive outlook onto one of Edinburgh's finest New Town streets. Indeed the location is hard to beat - you are surrounded by elegant neo-classical architecture and just five minutes' walk from Princes Street (up a fairly steep hill, but there are plenty of buses and taxis for the less energetic!) For those seeking complete seclusion, three exclusive suites are available with private gardens and their own entrance onto the street.
Day Three
A Private Island in Argyll
Having collected your chosen classic car from Edinburgh, you are soon leaving the city behind and following a scenic route along the shores of Loch Lomond and through the mountains of Argyll, before arriving at the west coast and your rather unique destination.
Your Hotel
What could be more romantic than staying on your own private island' Cross the rickety bridge from the west coast mainland to this idyllic hideaway and you enter a different world ' a world of luxury, seclusion. This delightful island retreat offers intriguing contrasts and pleasant surprises at every turn. The hotel building itself is a sprawling mansion, with a comfortable country house feel. Meanwhile, the relatively new leisure facilities at the Stables Spa are a testament to streamlined modernity, with a 17m indoor heated swimming pool, state-of-the-art gym, sauna, steam room, aromatherapy and reflexology suite - plus a rooftop terrace for leisurely lunches. There's even an emerging golf course, with six holes completed so far. But what really makes this place special is the child-like pleasure of wandering along secret woodland pathways and discovering rocky coves where you're unlikely to meet another soul save for a few playful otters.
What to see and do
Your stay includes free use of the golf course and driving range, gym, sauna, steam-room and swimming pool. Massage and beauty treatments are available subject to an extra charge. If you want to venture further afield, the bustling harbour town of Oban, gateway to the islands, is less than half an hour away, with easy day trips possible to Mull and Iona, amongst others.
You are also perfectly located to visit a number of gardens, including Kinlochlaich House, with its nursery, Ardchattan Priory and Barguillean Angus Garden, or a little further south the National Trust garden of Arduaine. There are also numerous castles to visit nearby, including Dunstaffanage, as well as the infamous, and quite stunning valley of Glencoe.
