Hogmanay in Scotland
See 2011 in with a true Scottish celebration in the Highlands & Islands.
The very word Hogmanay conjures up magical images and it’s never too early to plan and book a New Year break, whether you wish to join in the major festivities in our capital, Edinburgh, or whether you prefer a remote retreat in the highlands or islands.
Brief details of the breaks which were available in 2009 are presented below - 2010 options will be presented here from June 2010. However, in advance of this, for more information on what will be available simply let us know your preference, complete our enquiry form or call us on 0844 804 0020.
Option 1: Hogmanay on God's island, 3 nights from £286 per person.
For a true Hogmanay escape, choose this small typically hebridean hotel on the tiny island of Gigha. The bar will be a focus for much of the island's social life, and there will be a Hogmanay party, open to all comers, in the island village hall, but with fewer than 150 inhabitants this will be a peaceful place to escape and relax in stunning island surroundings.
The price includes dinner, bed & breakfast for 3 nights and a return ferry for car and 2 adult passengers.
Option 2: Hogmanay on Mull for 3 nights from £219 per person.
This cosy 17th century droving inn, ideally situated between Tobermory and Calgary is in the pretty estate village of Dervaig. Popular with the locals, who come from far and wide to soak up its convivial atmosphere, as well as with families, this is a place where visitors can enjoy traditional island hospitality, regular live music and wholesome highland fayre. Hearty meals and lighter bar snacks both feature fresh seafood and the finest Mull beef and venison and there is an extensive children's menu. Accommodation (including family rooms) is quietly situated away from the hustle and bustle of the bar and residents can escape to a private lounge/TV room with glorious views over the village and glen. This really is a delightful place to rub shoulders with the friendly folk of Mull and is convenient to visit both the sandy beaches of the north coast and the colourful village of Tobermory. The price for this celebration includes bed & breakfast for 3 nights, dinner on New Year's Eve and a return ferry for car and 2 adult passengers. Family rooms available.
Option 3: Hogmanay on Skye 3 nights from £431 per person.
Based in one of our favourite hotels, in the south of Skye, and easily accessible from the Skye bridge, this celebration will have a distinctly gaelic flavour. Sheltered by a gently curving bay, your charming whitewashed hotel sits right on the seashore, enjoying expansive views over the Sound of Sleat to the wilderness of Knoydart. This, the most southerly part of Skye, is an area of great natural beauty. After welcome drinks on arrival on 30th and dinner, there will be live music in the bar. On Hogmanay itself you could perhaps visit the Talisker distillery or enjoy some of the stunning Skye scenery. In the evening a Piper will precede a special dinner at 7.30pm and then, to quote the hotel, there will be 'shennanigans in the bar afterwards'. New Years Day brunch will be available from 10am until 1pm, followed by a treasure hunt and more live music in the bar on the 1st.
Price includes dinner, bed & breakfast for 3 nights. Travel to/from Skye by the Skye bridge.
Christmas breaks also available on Skye - from £395 per person, dinner, bed & breakfast for 3 nights.
Option 4: Hogmanay in the Cairngorms, 3 nights from £616 per person.
This very Scottish affair starts on the evening of 30th December 2009 with an informal whisky tasting. The hotel offers a choice of 80 whiskies and has a resident whisky ambassador to take you through the different tastes of Scottish whiskies explaining the delights of each area of production and help you understand the secrets of this wonderful drink. Followed by 3 course dinner served in the conservatory restaurant. After a typical Scottish breakfast, the day is your own, with a wide range of activities available locally, including walking shooting, fishing or even a whole range of golf (at additional cost).
For New Years Eve - Hogmanay - itself is a truly special, Black Tie event. You begin with excuisite canapés and a glass of champagne, then enjoy a six course Hogmanay banquet. A piper in full regalia and a troupe of traditional scottish dancers will entertain you during dinner. At 10pm a ceilidh band will strike up, pausing at midnight for the bells to ring in the New Year and for you to enjoy a spectacular firework display. Then it's back to the dancing until at least 2am. 1st January 2009 - Breakfast/brunch buffet. Enjoy a Bloody Mary or a Bucks Fizz with a wonderful breakfast/brunch buffet.
