Luxury Romance from £595 per person for 4nts
Having added together two of our favourite romantic places to stay, selecting their deluxe room options, we think the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, with our suggestions for driving routes between the two offering you a relaxing and enjoyable tour of some of the most beautiful parts of the Highlands.
Your first hotel in the Scottish Lakeland
One of our favourite destinations for nearly twenty years: it still gets better every time we visit. A beacon of welcome after a four mile drive along a windy single-track road, the traditional farmhouse and courtyard steading will surprise and delight you at every turn, as they reveal a fascinating, yet subtle, mix of old and new, rustic and chic. The restaurant has earned a superb reputation – cooking is Tom’s passion, and he creates exceptionally imaginative dishes on an ever-changing menu, reflecting whatever produce he can source directly and locally. The hotel’s organic garden provides a regular supply of herbs and vegetables, whilst the breakfast scrambled eggs come courtesy of the chickens in the yard – hence their deep orange colour. With magnificent views over Loch Voil and Loch Doine, this is the perfect place to soak up the peace and tranquillity of a sprawling highland estate, where red deer and grouse roam through dramatic walking country and red squirrels scurry across your path before darting back into the undergrowth.
Your second hotel by Loch Ness
Recently voted Small Luxury Hotel of the Year, this small luxury hotel has a beautiful setting overlooking the famous and evocative Loch Ness. The design blends the traditional with the contemporary and takes its inspiration from the natural environment of the Highlands. Each bedroom is individually styled and most have spectacular views across the loch to the hills beyond. The theme continues into the drawing rooms and dining room where understated elegance and antique furniture is punctuated with more contemporary style and artwork. The steeply sloping grounds of the Lodge have been skillfully landscaped into beautiful gardens with a small bridge across the pond, a feature which is already attracting a variety of wildlife. Perfect for a late afternoon drink.
This holiday also includes a boat trip on Loch Ness itself, departing from the nearby jetty.
