Jaguar E-Type Tour to Skye, from £925pp for 4 nights
Tour the open roads of the highlands in our stylish, classic Jaguar E-type -a real icon of the 1960s. We have designed a comfortable route taking you north and west through the highlands as far as the Isle of Skye.
Day One
Collect your car in Edinburgh and head north across the Forth Road Bridge into Perthshire with our recommended route soon bringing you into classic Highland scenery. Your first stop is just beyond Pitlochry. Plenty of time to explore today.
Your Hotel
Originally a church minister’s country residence, this charming family-run hotel is set in glorious wooded grounds incorporating immaculate lawns, formal herbaceous borders, fruit and vegetable plantings and a stunning rose garden. With open views across the Pass of Killiecrankie to the densely wooded hillsides bordering the River Garry, this is a truly delightful location, deep in the heart of the rolling Perthshire countryside. Much home-grown produce is used in the hotel’s award-winning restaurant, which has a burgeoning reputation not only for its sumptuous cuisine, but also for its extensive wine list. Less formal lunches and suppers are served in a relaxed conservatory setting. Do look out for the ornamental chickens which provide an unusual conversation piece in the public areas – all will become clear once you meet your ebullient hostess!
Day Two
Today your route takes you north and west, through the heart of the highlands, through Glen Laggan and past the soaring mountains of Lochalsh before crossing the Skye Bridge, to your next base, a lochside hotel in the south of the island.
Your Hotel
Sheltered by a gently curving bay, your charming whitewashed hotel sits right on the seashore, enjoying expansive views over the Sound of Sleat to the wilderness of Knoydart. This is a Gaelic-speaking community and the bar is a convivial meeting place for the locals, who mix happily with hotel guests, often to the accompaniment of traditional music and Gaelic song in front of the roaring log fire. Twelve bedrooms (six in the Garden House) are decorated with pretty cotton and linen chintzes and there are four new suites in the recently restored stables, each enjoying superb views across the water to the lighthouse of Isle Ornsay. On the little harbour right beside the hotel is the headquarters of "The Gaelic Whiskies", where you can sample an excellent range of connoisseur brands before browsing in the nearby craft shop.
Day Three
A full day to enjoy driving your classic tourer on the Isle of Skye, with our recommendations for places to visit, enjoy a relaxing lunch or a refreshing walk.
Day Four
Leave Skye by the short ferry to Mallaig. Pass the beautiful sandy beaches of Arisaig, the famous sight of Glenfinnan and on for a final stop on the shores of Loch Linnhe.
Your Hotel
Originally the home of The Pier Master, hidden away in the quiet village of Port Appin on the shores of Loch Linnhe, this really is a special place to contemplate the dramatic beauty of the west coast. The views are stunning and the once prolific steam traffic has given way to the blissful sound of silence. As you contemplate the sunset over the distant Morvern hills, you may be lucky enough to glimpse otters and seals. All 12 individually styled bedrooms have a fresh, contemporary, Scandinavian type feel to them - there is even a complimentary traditional Finnish sauna. The historic and award-winning seafood restaurant uses only the finest seasonal locally sourced Scottish seafood. Oysters are hand-picked from the Lismore oyster beds; mussels and langoustines are harvested from Loch Linnhe and Loch Etive and lobsters and crab are kept mouth-wateringly fresh in creels at the end of the pier which guests may view, subject to tides. In addition to seafood, beautifully fresh local meat and wild game from farms and private estates, as well as vegetarian dishes are always available.
Day Five
Today return to Edinburgh, with your route bringing you through the majestic valley of Glencoe, and by way of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park.
