Island Photography & Wildlife Safari from £475pp for 4nts

An unforgettable short break on the island of Mull, including two days "on safari" in the company of expert guides. One day will be under the tutorage of a professional landscape photographer so you can make the most of the sublime quality of Hebridean light amid the island's stunning landscapes, seascapes, and cloudscapes. Then spend a day with our local wildlife guide, who will help you track down some of this unique island's rich array of fauna, from mighty golden eagles to elusive but enchanting otters.

Day One - Over the sea to Mull

Easily accessible from Glasgow or Prestwick airport, the drive to Oban is straightforward and enjoyable. (You can also travel by train from Glasgow.) The 45 minute ferry crossing over the Sound of Mull, with glorious views in all directions, is one of the highlights of the trip.

The holiday is based in a popular family-run small hotel, set in the picture-postcard setting of Tobermory's stunning waterfront. Cleverly converted from a row of fisherman's cottages into cosy rooms - many with views over the harbour,  and an award winning restaurant, this location is ideal for those who prefer to be close to the craft shops, welcoming bars and restaurants of this often quite bustling island capital.

Day Two - Landscape Photography course

Today you will visit a range of off the beaten track locations, travelling by Land Rover, and guided by locally based photographer Dr Sam Jones. She will help you explore some of the hidden treasures of the island whilst benefitting from expert ‘in the field’ tuition. The course can be tailored for any level of experience and you can even hire a Canon digital SLR for a small fee. A packed lunch will be provided.

Family Photography Course

We also can offer this course specially tailored for families with children over the age of 8. The day will be a little shorter starting at 10am and finishing up between 3 and 4pm. It starts with an introduction at the studio to help everyone get the most out of the day (tips on composition, etc) before heading out to visit some locations. Along the way, you will learn about the history, folklore and landscape of Mull. You'll visit some very scenic locations and have an opportunity to get tuition in the field and explore your cameras to the full. Both courses, including timings, can be tailored to individual requirements.

Day Three - Wildlife safari

Today's full-day 'wildlife safari' will not only introduce you to Mull's most spectacular wildlife hotspots, but is a great way to explore some of the more remote and scenic highlights of this wildly beautiful island. Your friendly hosts Pam and Arthur will help you to look out for golden eagles soaring in silent glens and swooping down to protect their chicks, white tailed sea eagles hunting in coastal bays, hen harriers gliding over scrub and marshes, perhaps even otters sunning themselves in seaweed-strewn bays. Coffee and tea are supplied, binoculars are provided, and Pam's homemade soup and buns are legendary!

Day Four - Exploring Mull

A day to tour the island on your own and practise new found photography and wildlife-spotting skills. Perhaps cross to the neighbouring islands of Iona or Ulva, or take a boat trip to the unique island of Staffa, famous for Fingal's cave.

Day Five - Return Home

Return by ferry to the mainland, with options for different routes back to Glasgow or Edinburgh.
