How to Book

We're looking forward to helping you see Scotland differently.

We have included some suggested holidays throughout the site. These are simply ideas; none are fixed. You are welcome to ask for one of these exact itineraries or use them as the basis for your own specific trip.  There are then several ways to make a booking:

Browse online for ideas and complete the Availability Form for any which particularly appeal.

Or, to request your own holiday online, complete the Tailor-made request and we will create a trip to match your interests and imagination.

You can also call 0844 873 6110 any time. We're actually here Monday to Friday during normal hours, any other time leave a message and we'll call you back.
(If calling from overseas the number is +44 844 873 6110, or you can call us toll-free from the USA or Canada on 1 866 922 8538.)

We will then send you a free planned itinerary with a precise costing. If you wish you can modify the plan further before you decide to book, as there is no obligation at this stage.

Confirming your Booking

Once you have decided which option you prefer, you may use our secure on-line booking system to confirm details and pay your deposit or settle balances.

This is also where you will be able to download our booking form.
Following receipt of your booking form and deposit we will then be able to confirm accommodation and other arrangements.

Deposits

A deposit of £100 per person, or 10% of the total holiday cost for holidays above £1000 per person, secures your booking. As most of the hotels we use are small, we cannot guarantee availability until you have confirmed your booking in this way. (For cruise holidays and those of a total value over £4000 we will ask for a 25% deposit.)

Balances

Your holiday balance must be paid 8 weeks in advance of your travel date. If you are booking within 8 weeks of departure the full holiday costs must be paid at time of booking. You can use our secure online payment system to pay balances, as long as you have your booking reference to hand.

Payments

You can pay your deposit and balance by cheque, credit or debit card or by bank transfer.

We regret that due to the level of bank charges for such transactions, we are forced to add a 2% surcharge for balance payments made by credit card.

Payments by debit cards and deposits paid by credit card do not incur any surcharge.

Our on-line booking system allows you a simple and secure method of paying online by credit and UK debit cards.  If you wish to pay by bank transfer, please contact us for details.  Please make cheques payable to McKinlay Kidd Ltd.

Overseas Payments

As our costs are all in UK£Sterling, we quote all prices in UK£. Overseas clients may like to check current exchange rates here. Free Currency Services by XE.com

Travel Insurance

Please remember that on booking a holiday you are entering a contract, and that cancellation charges will apply should you cancel or curtail your holiday. We therefore strongly recommend that you make adequate arrangements for Travel Insurance. For UK resident customers Travel & General Insurance have developed a policy offering excellent value for money - policies start from as little as £8 per person. For more details and to arrange cover, call them on 0845 345 3456, or visit their website.

Consumer Protection

Your money and your holiday are protected when you book with McKinlay Kidd, through a Total Payment Protection (topp) Policy.
In compliance with the UK Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992 and the Civil Aviation (Air Travel Organiser’s Licensing) Regulations 1995 an insurance policy has been arranged with Travel & General Insurance Company plc, authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority, to protect customers’ prepayments in the unlikely event of our financial failure and paid in respect of:
• non-flight inclusive packages commencing and returning to the UK
• the ground handling aspects of packages where the customer is responsible for arranging travel to the destination
• inbound business to the UK offered on this website (subject to the terms of the insurance policy),
for:
• a refund of such prepayments if customers have not yet travelled, or
• making arrangements to enable the holiday to continue if customers have already travelled, or
• repatriation of customers to the UK or their home country as may be applicable

In the unlikely event of our financial failure, please contact the claims helpline on 0870 0137 965. A copy of the policy is available on request.

In addition, when you buy an ATOL protected air holiday package from us you will receive a confirmation invoice from us confirming your arrangements and your protection under our Air Travel Organiser’s Licence number 9481. In the unlikely event of our insolvency, the CAA will ensure that you are not stranded and will arrange to refund any money you have paid to us for an advance booking. For further information visit the ATOL website. The price of our air holidays includes the amount of £2.50 per person as part of the ATOL Protection Contribution (APC) we pay to the CAA. This charge is included in our advertised prices.

Late bookings

Unfortunately, due to the possibility of credit card fraud we are unable to accept bookings for travel paid for by credit card at less than 7 days' notice. Such bookings will need to be paid for by debit card. All tickets and holiday itinerary packs when paid for by credit or debit card must be sent to the address of the card holder.
