Scottish Holiday Ideas: Short breaks in Scotland

Itinerary VSP-1: Stay in a Lighthouse from £175 pp for 2nts

Stay in a Lighthouse

If crashing waves and the romance of the open seas appeal to your sense of adventure, then it would be hard to imagine a more inviting prospect than staying in the grounds of a working lighthouse. At the end of a winding single-track road, this is an historic 'A' listed building which has been sympathetically converted to a unique and cosy hotel with bedrooms which, though on the small side, benefit from considerable character and charm. The sense of space and light here emanates from the wide open seascapes and the dramatic views of Arran, Kintyre and Northern Ireland. From the conservatory you can watch the lighthouse beam its coded warning to approaching ships (so don't expect complete darkness!) and on a clear night you might just glimpse the beams of several other lighthouses across the water. This is also an ideal spot from which to view an abundance of wildlife, seabirds and local seals basking on the rocks - or to explore the attractive Galloway peninsula.

From £175 per person , based on 2 people sharing, in a luxury double meadow-facing room, for 2 nights midweek (Sun-Thurs) between November 2007 and April 2008, and from £194 per person for 2 nights over a weekend.
