Hogmanay in Scotland
See 2007 in with a true Scottish celebration in the Highlands & Islands.
The very word Hogmanay conjures up magical images.
It’s never too early to plan and book a New Year break, whether you wish to join in the major festivities in our capital, Edinburgh, or whether you prefer a remote retreat in the highlands or islands. Call us on 08707 60 60 27 to request information or check availability, or fill in the enquiry form.
Brief details of the breaks available in 2007 are presented below - for more information simply let us know your preference and complete our enquiry form or call us on 08707 606027.
Option 1: An traditional island Hogmanay in the Outer Hebrides, 2 nights from £249, 3 nights from £345 per person.
A warm welcome awaits you with roaring log fire, superb food and fine wines in an atmosphere of quiet elegance in this striking modern 4 star hotel on North Uist. With its stylish contemporary interiors and boutique-style ambience this is unique in the Hebrides. Each of its eight designer bedrooms offers wonderful views of Lochmaddy Bay and offers a soothing environment characterised by warm, earthy hues, subtle lighting effects and quality modern furnishings.
In contrast to the designer surroundings, Hogmanay promises to be full of traditional music and song. After dinner there will be a traditional community Hogmanay ceilidh, with live band into the small hours. A piper will welcome the New Year, then fireworks over the bay after midnight and time for more dancing, with the bar open until 3am.
To work off any excesses there are plenty of places for bracing walks on long sandy beaches and a chance to enjoy the total peace which only a remote island can offer. Indoors guests can also make use of the hotel's fully-equipped leisure club complete with sauna, steam room and gym.
Price includes dinner, bed & breakfast for each night, plus complimentary membership of the hotel's leisure club and sauna.
This holiday is available for 2 nights 31st December and 1st January, or for 3 nights starting either 30th December or 31st December.
Return ferry from Skye to Lochmaddy for a car and two adult passengers is included. We would recommend travelling to Skye by way of the bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh. We can easily advise and arrange overnight stops if required on Skye or on the way.
Option 2: Hogmanay on God's island, 3 nights from £398 per person.
For a true Hogmanay escape, choose this small typically hebridean hotel on the tiny island of Gigha. The bar will be a focus for much of the island's social life, and there will be a Hogmanay party, open to all comers, in the island village hall, but with fewer than 150 inhabitants this will be a peaceful place to escape and relax in stunning island surroundings.
The price includes dinner, bed & breakfast for 3 nights and a return ferry for car and 2 adult passengers.
Option 3: An island house party on Mull for 3 nights from £399 per person.
One of the most popular places to be at New Year is the colourful harbour village of Tobermory, where this break is based. After arrival on 30th December, you will be welcomed by mulled wine then enjoy dinner in the award-winning restaurant. On Hogmanay itself a guided walk will be available for the more energetic. Celebrations start with a Hogmanay Gala dinner followed with joining the traditional local party atmosphere around the town clock and watching the fireworks over the bay. Then it's back to the hotel for a Tobermory malt to toast in the New Year.
New Year's day will start with a brunch served until 1pm, then perhaps a walk to the lighthouse. In the evening there will be live music in the lounge after another dinner. You will depart the island by ferry on 2nd January.
The price for this house party style celebration includes dinner, bed & breakfast for 3 nights and a return ferry for car and 2 adult passengers.
Option 4: Hogmanay on Skye 3 nights from £449 per person.
Based in one of our favourite hotels, in the south of Skye, and easily accessible from the Skye bridge, this celebration will have a distinctly gaelic flavour. Sheltered by a gently curving bay, your charming whitewashed hotel sits right on the seashore, enjoying expansive views over the Sound of Sleat to the wilderness of Knoydart. This, the most southerly part of Skye, is an area of great natural beauty. After welcome drinks on arrival on 30th and dinner, there will be live music in the bar. On Hogmanay itself you could perhaps visit the Talisker distillery or enjoy some of the stunning Skye scenery. In the evening a Piper will precede a special dinner at 7.30pm and then, to quote the hotel, there will be 'shennanigans in the bar afterwards'. New Years Day brunch will be available from 10am until 1pm, followed by a treasure hunt and more live music in the bar on the 1st.
Price includes dinner, bed & breakfast for 3 nights. Travel to/from Skye by the Skye bridge.
