Scottish Holiday Ideas: Great Scottish Journeys

Itinerary CT-1: Tour in a classic Rolls Royce from £675 per person

Our four day tour in a classic Rolls Royce is specially designed so you can enjoy the thrill of the open road, and Scotland undoubtedly has some of the most scenic and spectacular.

We can also offer a range of other car options for this holiday, from Mini Coopers to Mercedes cabrios, Honda S2000 to Porsche Boxter - ask us for details.

Day One - Glendevon

Your first stop is around two hours from Glasgow, and 90 minutes from Edinburgh, so if you are starting early today you can take the time to explore - perhaps the gardens, beaches and golf courses of Fife, the historic town of St Andrew’s and the castles and country estates of Perthshire are all within easy reach,

Your Hotel

This 18th century drovers’ inn nestles in the heart of Glen Devon, one of the most beautiful glens in Perthshire. The historic atmosphere is balanced with welcoming, modern touches, and you’ll find an exceptional menu featuring the best Scottish produce, such as wild venison, hand-dived scallops and mouth-watering salmon. The cosy bar offers a wide selection of Scottish ales and single malt whiskies, including local Edradour, which proudly boasts that it is the smallest distillery in Scotland (visitors welcome nonetheless)!

Day Two - The Cairngorms

Today you tour further north through the heart of the highlands to a base in the Cairngorm National Park.

Your Hotel

Once a Victorian Sporting Lodge, your charming hotel is set amidst 10 beautiful acres of the best ‘Monarch of the Glen’ countryside. Surrounded by forests and mountains, you can even glimpse an ancient castle as you stroll through the gardens or take tea on the elevated garden terrace. Recently refurbished and updated the hotel is a wonderful blend of the traditional and modern, and has become an elegant yet informal ‘boutique-style’ country house where you immediately feel at home. Dining in the impressive Victorian conservatory is quite an experience. There is an extensive and imaginative wine list and the menu, created by the hotel’s award-winning chef, is modern Scottish with French and Dutch influence. All of the produce is sourced locally, and the chef likes to boast that his meat and poultry all come from within a 30 mile radius.

This is a great touring centre for the stunning Cairngorm National Park and the surrounding highland landscape of majestic mountains, rivers and lochs. The hotel is a mine of information on local walks and excursions, several beginning in and around the village itself. The towns of Aviemore and Grantown on Spey are within easy reach, as are the glorious sandy beaches of the Moray coast and the myriad distilleries of Speyside.

Day Three - The West Highlands

Today you cross the highlands from east to west an, after a short ferry ride find your final hotel, in remote Morvern and Ardnamurchan.

Your Hotel

Set picture perfectly by the side of a peaceful loch, your hotel is a real hidden gem. Surrounded by trees and mountains flawlessly reflected in the still waters, you may be forgiven for thinking you have stepped straight into an oil painting. Stunning views across the loch are just one of the highlights of this charming country house hotel. Elegant yet informal, its comfortable opulence exudes Scottish hospitality. Period furniture rubs shoulders with comfortable modern sofas and local paintings adorn the walls. Quirky touches (your ‘do not disturb’ sign is a soft toy reindeer outside your bedroom door) give the house real character, and log fires and well-stocked book cases are a temptation if the weather is wet. In the evenings white linen tablecloths and candlelight set the scene for a fine dining experience. Outside the grounds lead down to the loch past an old upturned rowing boat rumoured to belong to Arthur Ransome (author of Swallows and Amazons) who spent many of his childhood summers here.

Day Four - Return Home

Your return journey will take you through the majestic Glencoe valley and back to either Glasgow, via Loch Lomond, or Edinburgh via Perthshire.

From £675 to £725 per person , based on 2 people sharing a double room, for 3 nights between April and October 2008, on a bed & breakfast basis.
